2024, RESOLUTION, REVOLUTION..

Hello bonnie weans, Happy New Year to you all – you will never know the love I send in these words that can’t do you, or myself I guess, justice or the feelings behind them. My love for you is ‘it’. So ‘it’ will be.

It’s a new year 1st January 2024. There is I contend a weird other world feeling about 2024, a vibe that is spreading wings. Not, by the way always a bad thing as the vibe, the numbers 2024 have a warmth about them – for me at least. (Hey cousins, yes, he’s definitely losing it now).

In short, I guess we will see. My trail of negative things in the last few years follows on from a number of years of being at the end of a kind of domestic bullying. I think this may lessen in 2024!! Just a feeling. I’m 69 next birthday, so things are on the trail, winding on and health ain’t great so final stages?

Time though gives us all a reminder. Just get on with it, use it to the fullest levels and fill it with adventures. I’ve always promoted the idea that the smallest scale activity has adventurous threads through it. Shake your shoulders down and raise your eyes. You know, blue sky, green grass!

2023 was a truly horrible year. On a ‘world’ scale much of it championed and caused by the Conservative government. Nasty greedy and dishonest with a lie in every paragraph, in every photo opportunity. What they have done to the less well off people in this country is sinful to the extreme.
The world, today, is scarred by war and poverty. Difficult to know what to say about this. How do we change this? What can we do as world citizens?

What seems to be the obvious choice is that we don’t trust politicians but invest in said citizens, communities, ‘villages’ of people. Anyone in the leader role able to do this? There’s a bit of irony for us. Leaders are crap but we need them to break the mould.

We’ll see what comes. Though I feel ok about 2024 I also feel a fear that the prevailing conditions will overwhelm us in 2024.A tsunami of impossible change and deterioration. Might there be any hope tucked into the seams of mindful, live in the moment behaviour? Let’s see!

So, on a more frivolous note, in the western world we use a new year as an excuse, reason or distraction to reset behaviours for the year. It does bring a scent of optimism I guess. Based on ‘Ah well, last year was hey ho, next could be better’.

Mostly frivolous, or that is how they end up, New Year resolutions are about keeping fit, joining a gym, getting healthy, stopping something – smoking, swearing, drinking, supporting Rangers or Celtic or not – or voting Tory. These end up failing after a few weeks. Huge congratulations to those who make their mark though – damn fine job.

Somewhere in there is a truism about ‘less is more’. The more focused the aspiration, the ambition, the ‘wish’, the more likely it is to have some shred of positive outcome.
‘I will lose shed loads of weight and join a gym for a year’, just fails miserably and completely according to a statistics. Same with the health improvement ambitions – they just fail. So good luck with any approach dear reader, that you take but grasp the things that have a chance of working.

So for me in 2024 I won’t have any resolutions. I will remember that I will continue to try to be thoughtful, non- judgemental but make judgements, be kind as I can, on a daily basis, and do the things that help others when they are needed. I want to laugh a lot, last two years have been a wee bit more difficult than before, but it’s still there so lets hope!

Oh yes, there’s discernment too. I would like to explore that further.

Mainly though, I say to anyone who is listening who has influence, let me have a wee bit more time to love, with every agonising sear of energy I need to muster, my Sandy, Alba, Breagha, Anna and Faye.

It matters, it hurts. Maybe that means there will be a positive vibe. It’s love for my guys!!
