Hello fine clan Macleod/Marshall…..it’s Saturday 13th June and Scotland are about to play their first WORLD CUP game in competition for 28 years…..which we hear from the BBC every 5 minutes – God, their pundits are awful!

It’s in the USA.

Anyhow here comes the game against Haiti, reckoned to be low class football quality – turns out they were better than Scotland, on the ball- yet Scotland won 1-0 with a deflected goal- and the cheers and celebrations were not equalled anywhere else in the competition – so far.
Stayed up and drank wine!

Scotlands so called tartan army are for sure, unequalled on all levels -numbers, colour, music, noise, sounds, unshaven faces and if we are to believe it, overdrawn Scots men and families on a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to the GreedFest that is USA.

The line is ‘we won at all costs’ and now we will qualify through the groups……we will see….

Scotland play Morrocco, African champions on Friday and then Brazil five days later – kids whenever you read this at an adult age – look back and see how our team did because there is the possibility that Scotland will get hammered both times. I may follow that up in another column, for what it’s worth. { You will be finding it boring?} If we win, we will go on to win the whole kit-and-caboodle competition.

There is also the possibility Scotland may not play again in the W C for another 28+ years.

OK

Continued- the world cup continues – when you are older you might even be interested in invisible awards of best supporters. This meant they spent most money on beer. The city of Boston, famous for tea, nearly twinned with Scotland this time- but there are Americanisms all through – expensive, wonderful stadiums, hamburgers and beer that runs out, largely because of Scots fans but the others give it a lick too.

There are 42 teams, starting off in groups, then knock out. Scotland didn’t pass the group stage but the ‘Tartan Army’ – the supporters – were given the award for singing and playing bagpipes and giving money to charity – a local children’s hospital and others!

So in the group we lost to Morrocco, well beaten, no shots on goal and then lost to a boring Brazil team, no shots on goal. At time of writing quarter finals are being fought for and a poor English team are through, playing Norway, quarter final, in 3 days – goodness, the pundits and commentators are so prejudiced – Scots would never be like this.
Any how, by the end of the tournament Scotland will be fighting for the poorest team in the competition award. We were very poor – the manager has resigned, players moaning but fortunately the in built short term memory of the Scots fan can adjust accordingly.

If you are still reading this/these contributions, look back at 2026 and see what the history books say – Aye right, I hear you say – but at least see if the team has qualified for any other World Cup competitions!

There is one tale that is almost unbelievable, and that is where the lunatic U S President, Donald Trump attempted to see his influence change the rules of the competition to suit the American team. World wide laughter, world wide tears in that he has still got 2 years left in his presidential seat.

Have a look back guys – in fact look back at Trumps whole – 2 of – presidential trips – he’s crazy, someone will write a crazy memoir of his activities,

Here, on 8th July, I reckon his most lunatic gesture has still to happen.

Worryingly he’s born from a Macleod, from The Isle of Lewis and has the same name as my Grandad.

And me!!
