Hi guys, grandkids of five, a random input touching on the topic that is humongous in the scheme of our world and lives at the moment.
‘Climate change’ is the spray on term that as ever comes from lazy newspapers and describes a context that the world, yep, the whole world is in at the moment.
It is though to an extent, accurate – the climates around the world are changing for the worse mostly as a result/s of human intervention – or greed – and selfishness.
Imagine, you and me talking about the ‘world’!!
Truth is I won’t be here when this is an acute crisis, (Though some say it already is) I worry for your every future day as news of worsening, changing weathers symbolise worsening human behaviour.
It’s June 2023, there is not any part of any continent that is not attempting to cope with change in it’s daily life – that threatens it’s daily existence. Rain, sun, temperature, pollution and greedy capitalist business people and politicians.
We are as a country, continent facing changing, even vanishing seasons, erosion of land, pollution of water ways and storage resources. Heatwaves are lengthening, rising and people can’t cope. Survival becomes a daily passing conversation – none of us really know what to say.
Nations become self serving caring less for other regions – charitable aid in it’s tiny way aside.the north of the world is caring less and less for the south of the world. Citizens are on the move, moving north and creating conflict on the way. Additionally the northern hemisphere are handling the influx of other peoples in a shockingly greedy manner – see politicians again. So, the world moves up the ‘selfish’ scale. Like middle class United Kingdom!
I’m no scientist but we read daily about food shortages, energy crisis – people are freezing in their own home, having to ‘heat or eat’. More people live in poverty than ever, children in particular.
450+ days on, a war continues not a few hours flight form our local airports. It’s in gridlock just now – where is it when you read this?
Another war is raging – the one between rich, getting richer and the poor getting poorer, losing the fisticuffs and the reasonable chat with the wealthy.
World temperatures fall under discussion world wide.
Top man Antonio Guterres, top at many conferences on climate said :
“The central question of how to reduce emissions is not being seriously discussed and continues to be ignored.There was agreement, that to keep warming down to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, deep cuts of 45% in emissions by 2030 compared with 2010 levels were needed. But we are moving in the wrong direction.
“The truth is that if we look at the national determined contributions we have today and what was announced before during and immediately after Cop we are still moving into an increase of emissions of 14%.
“We have the risk of sleepwalking into the killing of the 1.5C goal.
Something is being done, but it is too little too late. If we want to keep 1.5 alive we need to have a massive determination to reduce emissions as quickly as possible.”
All indicators suggest the effects of the climate crisis are accelerating faster than the worst predictions of a few years ago, he said.
Of course, I don’t fully understand things, but the numbers are scary, I reckon. Oh my dear weans, I FEAR FOR YOU.
Other issues – plastics, fossil fuels, pollution of clean waters, recycling – all things we can do something. I don’t do enough for sure, trying a bit harder but could do better, for sure. How are you doing?
Guterres was asked what gave him hope. He said he had met many young people in Lisbon, part of a youth forum aiming to develop ideas on solutions to the ocean and climate emergencies. Their depth of knowledge, clarity, commitment in their proposals and their enthusiasm “is my best hope”, he said. Young people are engaged. Governments are now becoming probably the entities that are moving more slowly.”.
