FOURTH OF JULY

Hi kids, children and loved grand weans, I continue to scribble stuff in the probably vain hope that when you are older you will read some of them and maybe look at your world, as it is, and see how it is and importantly be active in the issues that you can change prompted with my words today and other days. You will find your own causes but as they say, don’t let them pass you by.

It’s the 3rd of July 2024, morning, as I type away and reflect I suppose on the United Kingdom government election to morrow, 4th July. It was announced by prime minister Richie Sunak six weeks ago and my darling children, has been the most boring six weeks anywhere on the calendar only thrilling some pretty poor journalist practice, repetiton and hours of whatiffery.

It has resulted in a heightened loathing of already suspect politicians – we have a multi millionaire prime minister telling impoverished families how to live their lives and his colleagues, equally rich, doing the same and having no idea.
This is the politician and his political party who created a ‘new poor’ and has had a period of thieving, lying and deceit with past prime ministers – look up the history books, Conservative government 2021 – 2024 – shambles and finding a new level of disgusting.

So tomorrow we will have a new government – at least 160 sitting mp’s are resigning so new people a plenty. We have ‘new’ parties – Family Party, Reform led by disgusting human beings – they must not get support but I fear the worst.

Labour Party are tipped to win – as far as I can see it will be lost by the Tories and Labour will win by default – nearly or more or less.

I had a postal vote, which I’ve used in all elections in the last 30+ years. It’s been a bit of a mess, nationally as many? are complaining they had not received their voting package so emergency measures, voting venues were set up.We will see what impact it has, probably from losers.

In Scotland we have the SNP leading our devolved government which is under pressure with a new leader to do better. I think they will lose a number of seats. We will see. What I want is a more effective Scottish Government paying attention to what I and other citizens not just want, but need.

I want, too, my local MP John Lamont to lose ugly. He won last time hugely and I have to say impressively but he is in my view a spineless useless carpetbagging money grabber.
He has voted for some horror policies, seems to have no mind of his own, no imagination and absolutely no leadership skills or strengths. His narratives are non existence. Have a look back at the 5th of July 2024. How did he do?
The day after independence day, 4th July. USA.

We shall see.
I started my career, my main job that would eventually, with your Grandma, pay for a home, your mum Flo and her brother, uncle Rod, my kids. On the 4th July 1978 – my own independence day. I guess it was but independence brings unforeseen consequences, unexpected adventures, laughter and tears. The best of, the worst of…

On the 14th June Scotlands mens football team played the first of 3 group game in the Euro Championship. Germany humped a really s$£t Scotland 5-1. Scotland also had a crap draw with the Toblerone Terrors and lost the third match to a supposedly lesser team, ending in -nia. Scotland were consistently awful in 3 games. Two own goals!

Scotlands Tartan Supporters Army were a huge hit in Germany and with so many different sets of supporters. We won’t hear all of the stories of course. There are always stories with Scots fans.

Scotland were clearly the worst performing team. England were not far behind on the performance stakes. The results stakes say something else. They play quarter finals on Saturday next. God please lose the sound of the jingoistic commentators and poor, poor pundits. TV sound down, radio on.
