NEW YEAR 2025!!
Happy New Year my bonnie weans! It’s 2025 – what does that mean to us – you in your tiny years of innocence, Sandy the honourable exception – and me here in my closing months of three score and ten. Hmmmmmmm!
I think there is something solid about the number 2025 – 2024 was and will remain a s%$t year on so many levels, particularly on my levels!!! More later ‘mibbeez!’
So many awful anti humanity things last year. I hope this year will bring eye brow raising changes to our domestic and world wide existence.
So far todays headlines -war in 20 countries, mass suicides and murders in the US.Poverty prevails in the UK and we pretend it doesn’t exist. World wide climate changes, local death to services that we enjoy, indeed need to have any chance of arm wrestling the mental health issues that we all seem to have. AND see last Christmas blog for the start of a list that still prevails.
I may weep!
Anyhow seeing you over Christmas made me happy. Smiles and screams, each, yes, passed onto my kids, your mum and dad’s! My screams were loudest!
Sandy heads off back to his second term at the University – sorry the Conservatoire – of Music and Drama in Glasgow – and kids all of us have time yet before we go back to schools. Lets get the felt tips and crayons out.
What will we do this new and maybe exciting year?
Well this new year thing of making resolutions still gets some headlines.
What are yours these days, everyone chatters? Are you stopping something? Starting something.
Loose weight, stop drinking fizzy drinks, sleep better, go to the gym, learn to play the…….
Resolutions are always broken. Yes, they are. What is needed is small steps supported by small gestures for big friends whom you can lean on when you need.
No matter what the ambition is you will need some sort of help – a group to talk to, to run with, to play with, to say hello with. I’m going to be kinder to folks, we say! Well, do it, sound it out and in turn include yourself in there somewhere. Take a shoulder to lean on when you can. Will you think of, do of, more effective climate initiatives, recycling – headlines this morning highlighting fires in California, focusing on loss of property and wealth, but that’s the US and newspapers for you. BUT it’s a tragic sign of what’s to come. UK has targets but missing the big ones – true, there have been a few goals scored but they don’t count now, no need to be smug – it’s the next hurdles we need to get onto – decent housing and food planning maybe?
Sorry guys a wee rant there.
The principle of taking action, doing not just talking is something that can be done anytime, right wherever you are as you read this.
What is easier guys, is actions towards people – kindness, help, being a great friend, support……
Here’s a few things you can do for yourself and others, that you can be in control of.
- Pay someone a compliment
- Smell a green forest. Go, out there!
- Phone an old friend.Keep in touch!
- Unsubscribe from 10 mailing lists.
- Draw, colour in, your own original or buy a book.
- Write a limerick.
- Snuggle a horse.
- Give out oodles of loving kindness.
- Touch grass.
- Read a poem, listen to a poem.
- Go for a naked swim.
- Listen to birdsong.
- Watch Fred Astaire. Who, my bonnie weans? Magic, you’ll see.
- Glass of water.
- Buy nicer bread.
- Lie down, breathe, let your back to the floor.
- Un-hunch your shoulders.
- Write down three things you are grateful for.
- Watch the skies in a dark place, at night.
- Listen to the Beatles ballads….
- Do nothing for a while. Its OK, it’s allowed.
Guys, this year for a whole bunch of reasons may be crazy!! Let’s see. Please though, look after each other. G.
